The funeral service for Jewel Steeley, a longtime Wagoner resident, will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at Mallett Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner. The Reverend Willie Rice will officiate. Interment will follow in Lost City Cemetery near Hulbert, OK. Grandsons serving as pallbearers are Bruce Smith, Derek Steeley, Dustin Steeley, Greg Hornbuckle, Sherrod Hornbuckle and Christopher King. Jewel Dene (Moore) Steeley was born January 27, 1922 in Hulbert, OK to Riley and Eliza (Griffin) Moore. She attended school in Lost City and married Arthur Ray (Ott) Steeley on September 2, 1938. The family moved to the Wagoner area in 1950 and settled in Wagoner in 1957. Mrs. Steeley worked in housekeeping at Western Hills Lodge and as an aide at Wagoner Community Hospital and Ross Nursing Home. She was head of housekeeping at the Trade Winds Motel in Muskogee for twenty years. For the past twenty-five years she was employed at Wal-Mart. Her warm smile and friendly greetings were always a welcoming sight to shoppers entering the store. Jewel Steeley departed this life Saturday, November 15, 2008 in Wagoner at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 22 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur Ray, “Ott” Steeley, in 1991; daughter, Marsha Dee Steeley in 1950; brothers Luna Moore and John Morgan “Buck” Moore; an infant brother and two sisters. Survivors include her son, R.C. Steeley and his wife, Beverly, of Hulbert; daughters and their spouses, Betty and Larry King of Omaha, Nebraska, Joan Smith and her special friend Lloyd Mitchell, both of Wagoner and Sharon and Terry Hornbuckle of Wagoner; grandchildren, Cynthia and Cal Hildreth of Iowa, Twyla and Mace Jefferies of Iowa, Bruce and Teresa Smith of Wagoner, Derek and Valie Steeley of Owasso, Dustin Steeley and Heather Brewer of Dallas, TX, Greg and Regan Hornbuckle of Mesa, AZ, Sherrod Hornbuckle of Wagoner, Christopher and Angel King of Omaha, NE; her special friend, Natalie Morrison, who was like a granddaughter to Jewel; great grandchildren, Cassie Hildreth, Caleb Jeffries and Joshua Jeffries, Bryce Smith, Dylan Steeley, Paige Steeley, Cole Steeley, Nicholas Hornbuckle, Austin Hornbuckle and Shea Hornbuckle; one great- great grandson, Jadean; sisters-in-law, Rosie Moore of Wagoner, Loreta Moore of Berryhill, OK , Pauline Steeley Thomas and Jay of Hulbert and Oleta Steeley of Hulbert; brothers-in-law, Everet Lush of Tulsa and Lawrence Ogden of Wagoner; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
