Philip Alan Mackey, age 73, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2020 at Saint Francis Hospital South in Tulsa, OK.  Phil was the son of Orval and Lula Guymon Mackey, born September 5, 1946 in Centralia, IL.  Phil played football for Wagoner High School, graduating in 1964.  He also graduated from NSU in 1968 with his bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Accounting.  While in college Phil married Janelle Allen on his 19 th birthday.  Phil worked as an auditor for Standard Oil Company and Amoco.  After the death of his father-in-law in 1976, Phil quit his job to run the family farm.  In the late 80's Phil went to work as a social worker for the Department of Human Services.  It was there that he found his passion for helping others.  He was instrumental in helping close the Hissom Memorial Center, finding housing for many of their residents.  Phil enjoyed a long career with Adult Protective Services in Muskogee, Okmulgee and Wagoner counties before his retirement from Cherokee county in 2007.  He worked for DHS for 20 years.

Throughout his lifetime, Phil was active in the Muskogee Lion's Club, having received the Melvin Jones Fellow.  He was also a past member of the Young Farmers Association.  Phil was ever-present at his children's 4H, football, basketball, wrestling, softball, band and piano events.  His children never had to wonder about his support.  He was active in Grad Night and the Wagoner Booster Club.  Phil was proud of having given over 100 units of blood to the American Red Cross.  Phil enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, hunting, woodworking, crocheting and quilting.  Phil was also known for having some of the best smoked barbeque around!  He loved everything football, mostly the Wagoner Bulldogs, Oklahoma State University, and the Dallas Cowboys.

In their retirement Phil and Janelle joined the Escapees Camping Club and were members of Chapter 17.  They traveled all over this area and enjoyed wintering in south Texas.  They made many cherished friends.  Phil was also a member of the "Gone to Pieces" Quilt Guild.  He loved to show off his quilts to anybody that had time.  Phil volunteered many hours making quilts for the Women's Shelter.  Each of his children and grandchildren have a quilt that he made just for them.  At the time of his death he was working on a wedding quilt for his 1-year old great grandson, Tyson.

Phil is proceeded in death by his parents and brother, Lyndon Mackey, as well as his in-laws, Dencil and Isabel Allen.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janelle, daughter Shannon North and her husband, Larry, daughter Gina Ozmer and her husband Steve, and son Lane Mackey and his wife Shelley, 7 grandchildren, Kasey North; Ty North and Haley; Garett, Carson, and Isabel Ozmer; and Avri and Brody Mackey, and 6 great-grandchildren.  Phil also leaves behind his beloved miniature dachshund, Lily Pup (LP).
