Obituary

Thelma Jean (Rogers) Lawson was born April 20, 1935 to Clarence and Beatrice Rogers in Hulbert, Oklahoma. She left this life to be with the Lord on October 7, 2022 at the age of 87 years.

Thelma grew up in the Lost City area where she attended Lost City School and later in life obtained her GED. She met the love of her life, Howard Lawson, and they were married February 7, 1950. Howard worked hard to provide for the family, and Thelma worked hard to keep everything running at home. She milked cows at their dairy, tended to the beef cattle and even read meters for Lake Region Electric at one time. Thelma loved working on the farm and spent her time taking care of the kids, the cows, and growing the garden. She always grew a garden big enough to feed the entire family, and many memories were made snapping green beans and shucking sweet corn.

Rodeos were a big part of the Lawson household, and Thelma loved going and watching. She always made sure to make food to take so no one got hungry, and if you were lucky enough to go home with her, you'd get to eat again. She enjoyed her family immensely and loved cooking for them. Sunday dinners were a regular occurrence at the Lawson house, and everyone was welcome. She was baptized in the cool waters of Fourteen Mile Creek and enjoyed attending church at Peggs Freewill Baptist Church with her church family there.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Beatrice Rogers, her baby sister, Patricia Rogers, and her husband of over 60 years, Howard Lawson.

She is survived by her children:  Lorestia Buford and husband Phillip of Hulbert, Patsy Glover and husband Justin of Warner, and David Lawson and wife Beth of Newcastle; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; extended family and friends.

Viewing will be Monday from 10 am until 7 pm.

The funeral service will be at 11 am Tuesday, October 11 in the Chapel at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner. Officiating will be the Reverend Phil Buford.

Interment will be beside her husband, Howard, in the Hulbert Community (IOOF) Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Rogers, Willard Cooper, Stan Rutherford, John Nichol II, Jay Young, Harry Henderson, Tom Henderson, Bryan Young and Keith Deckard.
