IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Agnes Lee
Sleeper
September 22, 1933 – May 14, 2020
Agnes Lee Gaddis Sleeper was born in Wagoner, Oklahoma on September 22, 1933 to Hazel (Shockley) and Harry Gaddis and attended Wagoner schools. On January 7, 1950 Agnes married the love of her life, John Daniel Sleeper, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Theirs was truly a match made in Heaven, each of them always giving the other credit for making their marriage and lives together the success it was. Their devotion to each other was tangible to all who knew them.
She and John became owners and operators of the Sleeper Agency in the 1960's. They had a number of locations and even operated out of their historic home on South McQuarrie Avenue at one time. They moved the office later, finally settling in the location on East Cherokee Street in downtown Wagoner. Agnes remained active in the business until it was sold to their daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Jamie Cannon, when she and John retired. For many years Agnes and John enjoyed vacationing in Cancun, Mexico and maintaining an active membership in Dance Club. In fact, Agnes and John loved to dance together, whether at home or away, all their lives.
Agnes was active in many organizations, including the Wagoner Rose Garden Club, Chapter BD of PEO and Bridge Club. Family was very important to Agnes, and she loved having family around her. Her love for flowers and working in the yard was passed down to her family.
Agnes was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church and played a role in the starting of the Friendship Sunday school class.
Agnes departed this life on Thursday, May 14, 2020 in her Wagoner home. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Daniel Sleeper; parents, Hazel and Harry Gaddis; daughter, Martha Lee Sleeper; granddaughter, Melissa Jean Sleeper; son-in-law, Jamie Cannon; aunt, Goldie Brumnett; her parents-in-law, Walt and Pauline Sleeper and brother-in-law, Jack Sleeper.
Survivors include two children: Agnes's daughter, Sherry Cannon of Wagoner, OK, Sherry's children and grandchildren, Summer Cannon, Holden and Case, and Ryan Cannon and his wife, Michelle Cannon, Kaylei, Corbin, Kolbi and Brie; Agnes's son, Danny Sleeper and his wife, Margaret, of Claremore, OK, Danny's children, Tyanna Trippany and her husband, Jamie, Harold W. Sleeper and his wife, Randi, Cori Burchart and her husband, Kyle, and John David Sleeper; Danny's grandchildren, Braeden, Norah, David, Adam, Joseph, Boston and Baron; Agnes's sister-in-law, Tess Sleeper; a host of extended family and friends.
