Archie Edwin Cotton was born December 10, 1922 in Cushing, OK to Lesley Cecil and Clara (Crites) Cotton. After graduating from Cushing High School in 1940 he attended two years of college. Archie entered the U.S. Air Force and made a career, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1967 after more than twenty-three years of service. He later was employed for a number of years at the Wagoner Area Metropolitan Planning Commission. Archie liked to do mechanic work on cars and motors and liked to work on things for his grandchildren, which is the reason they dubbed him "Mr. Fixit". Other hobbies include bowling, which he enjoyed for many years, and his activities with the Masonic Lodge # 98 in Wagoner and the Bedouin Shrine in Muskogee. He especially liked to ride in parades with other Shrine members as part of the motorcycle troop. Archie died on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 in Wagoner, OK, at the age of 87 years, 10 months and 16 days. He was preceded in death in 2006 by his wife, Ernestine Cotton; by both parents; his twin, Earl Cotton; another brother, Cecil Cotton; sister, Violet Cotton; a son, Gary Cotton and a son-in-law, Roger Gates. Survivors include his daughter, Gail Gates of Wagoner; daughter-in-law, Kay Cotton of Garland, TX; grandchildren and their spouses, David and Christine Cotton, Teri and Shane North, Dennis and Kristin Cotton, Rachael and Jimmy Hunter, Jason and Amy Gates and Daniel Gates; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Olive Brookshire of Cushing, OK; other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at a Visitation Thursday evening from 5 - 7 p.m. at Mallett Funeral Home.
