Obituary

Beryl Delano "Butch" Holmes was born December 04, 1940 in Chickasha, OK to Virgil A. and Lou (Walton) Holmes. He grew up in Stroud, OK and Enid, OK and graduated from Cyril High School in 1958. Butch served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve. He began his long and dedicated police enforcement career in Enid, OK, where he worked for four years. He then joined the Dallas Police Department and served for twenty-two years, beginning in 1969 and retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Dallas Sheriff's Department for five years. In 1999 Butch and his wife, Gilda Holmes, moved to Hulbert, OK where they enjoyed retirement until her death in 2010. While living in Dallas Butch attended Dallas Baptist University. He was a member of the Dallas Police Association and a Master Mason and member of the East Dallas Lodge No. 1200. He loved sports, and especially enjoyed following the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboy teams. In later years Butch enjoyed gardening, fishing and travelling. Beryl "Butch" Holmes departed this life on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at his home in Cookson, OK. He was predeceased by his wife, Gilda Holmes; his parents; and three brothers, Bobby Holmes, Art Holmes and Peter Lynn Holmes. Survivors include his wife, Carol Holmes, of the home; his son, Bobby Holmes of Hulbert, OK; his daughter, Brenda Holmes Byford of Oklahoma City, OK; stepchildren, Eric Ivy of Louisville, KY, Jason Ivy of Lost City, OK, Mike Roach of Tahlequah, OK, Colby Patton of Cookson, OK, Valerie Hix of Fort Gibson, OK, and Carol Ann Sanders of Cookson, OK; grandchildren, Korie Holmes, Heath Holmes, Heather Sweat, Nicholas Byford and Brogan Byford; step grandchildren, Jacob Ivy, Holden Ivy, Kailey Sanders, Joey Sanders, Aubrey Patton, Gunner Patton, Kinzie Roach, Braiden Roach; three great-grandchildren, Holly Holmes, Hudson Holmes and Hadley Holmes; three brothers, Meryl Holmes of Enid, OK, Earl Holmes of Phoenix, AZ and Jerry Edler; a sister, Marilyn Miller of Manatou, OK; other relatives and friends. The Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at the Chapel in Little Cemetery in Little, OK. The Reverend Donald Lewis Pate will officiate. Pallbearers will be Heath Holmes, Arron Holmes, John Holmes, Brogan Byford, Colby Patton and Mike Roach. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Harlan and Mike Holmes.
