Betty Jean (Pofahl) Atkison of Wagoner, OK passed away on August 18, 2014 at the age of 82. She was born in Rose, OK on January 29, 1932 to Lyle and Eva (Bradshaw) Pofahl. She married John Atkison and together they raised six children. John and Betty lived many places during their life as John served in the Air Force. Once retired, John and Betty settled in Wagoner and became active members of the community. Betty was a loving caretaker to many. Her main occupation was to be mother to six children and a military wife to John as he served in the Air Force. She served in many volunteer roles including being a den mother for Cub Scouts and being an active member of the Wagoner Band Boosters and is a past Vice President of the organization. She also served as a precinct worker for the Wagoner County Election Board. Once her children were grown, she worked as a caregiver to several special ladies who she adored and worked at the Assembly of God Church in Wagoner in the nursery where she loved the children that were left in her care. In retirement, she joined the Evergreen Senior Citizens Center and gathered with her friends to enjoy working with ceramics. During this time she was very active in their fundraiser of selling Memorial Day flowers where she was the best bow maker. In addition to serving in these volunteer roles, Betty enjoyed many hobbies. She loved to grow vegetables and flowers, she was a gifted seamstress and quilt maker, loved to cook for her family, she learned and played tennis with several of her friends and of course her love of ceramics and crafts. Betty is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John all of Wagoner, OK. Also, preceding her in death were her brothers Irvin Pofahl of Wagoner, OK, Paul Pofahl of Okay, OK and Bobby Pofahl of Okay, OK and one sister, Mary Watkins of Wagoner, OK. Betty is survived by her children, Paula Bowley of Muskogee, OK, Jeannie Marrone and her husband, Frank, of Fulshear, TX, Johnny Atkison and his wife, Marla, of Owasso, OK, Duane Atkison of Tahlequah, OK, Phillip Atkison and his wife, Renee, of Allen, TX and Melanie LaBar and her husband, Rick, of Plano, TX. Raymond Pofahl and his wife, Maria, of Browns Mills, NJ, Tommy Pofahl of Muskogee, OK and Annie Davis and her husband, Blain, of Wagoner, OK survive their sister. Betty leaves behind 8 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2014 from 6 - 8 PM at the Mallett Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner. The funeral will be held Friday, August 22, 2014 at 10 AM at the Mallett Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner. Interment will be in the Pioneer Cemetery in Wagoner. Nephews will be serving as pallbearers.
