Betty Jean Due was born June 6, 1936 in Dallas, Texas to Luther V. and Mamie (Gillim) Holman. She moved with her family to the Broken Bow, Oklahoma area as a young child and attended school there. Betty and her husband, Lem, were married when she was seventeen, thus beginning an enduring and devoted marriage lasting nearly sixty years. Betty worked in sales for many years in various capacities. She owned and operated a children's clothing store in Muskogee for a while. She and Lem both enjoyed volunteering their time to the County Election Board. She loved the wandering and RV traveling throughout the country with Lem following retirement. They made five trips to Alaska, Betty's favorite, and some of the best memories are of the fishing they did there. Betty departed this life on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at her home in Wagoner. She was preceded in death by her parents; by a son, Lemuel Gene Due, in 1971 and two brothers, Bud Holman and Gus Holman. Survivors include her husband, Lemuel Arch Due of the home; her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Paul and Marie Due of Eugene, Oregon; other relatives and many friends. The funeral service for Betty will be at 2 p.m. Monday, October 7, 2012 at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner. The Reverend Carl Tinnea will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jerry Edmiston, John Edmiston, Mitch Ballard, Ron Nicholas, Orlin Emmons and Wes Henderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Rice, James Jennings, Josh Hughes, Jacob Hughes and Derrick Olson. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at Pioneer Cemetery in Wagoner. Memorial donations in Betty's name may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, OMRF.org.
