Betty (Johnston) Thompson was born November 12, 1927 in Wagoner, OK to Charles Dewitt and Francis Pearl (Guthrie) Johnston. Before retirement Betty worked as a secretary for insurance companies. She married Sam L. Thompson on February 20, 1960, and they lived in Tulsa until moving to Wagoner in 1980.

Betty loved her dog, Boomer and OU football. She enjoyed reading and going to the library, fishing and going to the lake and playing the slots machines. She loved to eat chicken fried steak at Tobey Keith's.

She departed this life Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the Villages at Southern Hills in Tulsa, where she currently made her home. Preceding her in death were her husband, Sam L. Thompson in 1986; her parents, Charles and Francis Johnston; two stepsons, Steven Thompson and Gary Thompson; two brothers, Robert "Bob" Johnston and Charles Johnston; a sister, Lula Mae Wilson; and a nephew, Robert Johnston, M.D.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Debbie Thompson of Tulsa; stepson and his wife, Sam L. Jr. and Cindy Thompson of Broken Arrow; stepdaughter, Kris Newell of Arkansas; numerous grandchildren and great -grandchildren; two nieces Jane Ann Cherry of Coweta and Nancy Andersen of California; numerous grand nieces and grand nephews; other family and friends.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mallett Funeral Home and Crematory in Wagoner, Oklahoma.

The Funeral service for Mrs. Thompson will be at 2:30 pm Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the Mallett Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner.

Private interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner.
