Obituary

Betty Jean Winters was born February 21, 1925 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Martin Ray and Ethel Viola (Swingl) Winters. After graduating from Muskogee High School in 1942 Betty attended Draughn's School of Business and beauty college.

In 1944 Betty married John W. Armstrong. John preceded Betty in death when he was killed in action during World War II.

Betty worked in accounting for many years at Spartan Aeronautics. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening and sewing. A gifted vocalist, Betty sang at the Veteran's Administration for thirteen years and at many funerals. She was a longtime member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Muskogee.

Betty departed this life Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at Pleasant Valley Health Care Center in Muskogee, OK at the age of 96 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Ethel Winters; her husband, John W. Armstrong; a brother, Glen Winters; sisters, Lois Patton, Irene Chambers and Eva Perry.

Survivors include one niece, Glenda Cranson; four nephews, Ron Chambers, John Stanberry, Glen Ray Winters Jr. and Jeb Perry; other extended family and friends, especially her close friend, Bob Hodges.

The visitation will be from 6 – 8 pm Monday at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner, OK. The funeral service will be at 10 am Tuesday, January 25, 2022 in the Chapel at Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner, OK. Officiating will be Chaplain Bill Crow.
