Betty Jane Young of Wagoner, Oklahoma departed this life August 13, 2021 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 86 years.
Betty Jane Young, (Shears) was born September 28, 1934, in Wagoner, OK to Laura Jane Shears (Rush) and George Walter Shears. Betty was a 1951/1952 graduate of Wagoner High School. June 15, 1952 she married the love of her life (Floyd) and they were married for 68 wonderful years.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Floyd Young, 2 sisters, Reva Jo Megee (Shears) & Imogene Shears, 2 brothers, Leroy & Travis Troxel (Rush), 1 niece Debbie Megee Saylor.
Betty was a lifetime member of the Wagoner First Assembly of God Church. She loved shopping, cooking and gardening. She loved spending time outdoors on her patio, and vacationing with her family. Her favorite pastime was spent watching old westerns she owned every movie John Wayne made, she also loved watching Bonanza. In her younger years she enjoyed playing the Piano, the guitar & the accordion. Betty is survived by their twins, 1 son, Mark Alan Young of Tulsa, 1 daughter, Carol Ann Blagg and husband Michael of Wagoner, 1 grandson, Joshua Bret Bogle, 2 great grandchildren Leighton & Madilynn Bogle all of Wagoner, 1 Nephew, George Megee, Nieces: Donna Sue Niceley, 1 great niece, Kristin Renee Saylor, 3 great nephews, Adam, Kevin, & Christopher Niceley & wife Elle of Iowa. Other close relatives Wayne Grimes, Sharon & Carolyn. The family would like to especially thank Carter Hospice for their comforting care, along her amazing caretakers, Jessica Baldwin, Deanna Post, Sandra Blagg & Dell Catlett.
Pallbearers: Adam Niceley, Kevin Niceley, Michael Grimes, Doyle Harris, Danny Harris, Todd Oden.
Honorary Pallbearers: Rev. Alan Whittenburg, Jack Brooks, Robert Davis, Donald Davis, Norman Rosamand, Sherrod Hornbuckle, Nolan Geurin.
Services will be at 12 p.m. noon, Wednesday, August 18th at the Wagoner First Assembly of God Church, where the Rev. Steve Ashe, Rev. Jack Barron and Rev. Jack Salkil, are officiating. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Mallett Funeral Home.
For Genealogy purposes: Betty is the great, great, great granddaughter of the late Benjamin Rush (1746-1813), one of the most eminent physicians in the early history of the United States. He was a member of the Continental Congress and a signer of The Declaration of Independence (1776) Rush received his medical training through apprenticeship and his M.D. at Edinburgh, Scotland in 1768. As Rush traveled across Europe it brought Benjamin Franklin to his acquaintance and the two men remained lifelong friends.
