Bobby Ray Bob' Vanbrunt was born February 22, 1940 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Floyd and Mozelle (Neel) Vanbrunt. He attended school in Wagoner and Okay. He and his wife, the former Barbara Withers, were married nearly 49 years ago. They lived in Coweta for several years before to moving to Wagoner, where they made their home for many years. He was a long time member of the First Baptist Church. Bob was well known by many as a man who would do whatever he could to help someone. He loved his community and the people in it. For many years he and Barbara, with the help of other family members, had a great time with the interactive Halloween display they held in their yard, with hundreds of children and parents visiting every year. Bob served his community in many capacities and will be greatly missed by those who have served with him. He was a long time member of the Wagoner City Council and currently served as the President of the Council. He was a former Wagoner School Board member and served as a board member and President of the Wagoner Chamber of Commerce. Bob was active in the Wagoner County Democratic Party. As a young man Bob began working with his dad, Floyd in his masonry business and through the years developed his own business as a building contractor, well known throughout the area. Bob Vanbrunt departed this life on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 71 years, 10 months, and 12 days. His faith and strength in battling extended illness are an inspiration to many. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Sean Vanbrunt; his son-in-law, Sean Lee and a brother, Vernon Vanbrunt Survivors include his wife, Barbara Vanbrunt of the home; a daughter, Sheila Lee of Coweta; three grandchildren, Rilen Vanbrunt of Chouteau, Peyton Lee and Parker Lee, both of Coweta; a brother, Eldon Vanbrunt and his wife, Lois of Wagoner; two sisters, Sue Wells and her husband, Johnny and Glenda Freeny and her husband, John, all of Wagoner; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; other relatives and many friends. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Wagoner. The Reverend Mark Pointer will officiate. A visitation will be held from 5 p .m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner. Interment will be in Pioneer Cemetery in Wagoner. Pallbearers will be Terry Hornbuckle, Boyd Cagle, LaVoy Young, Larry Abernathy, Jack Aldridge, Larry Morgan, James Jennings and Wally Beck. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Hicks, Vernon Sullivan, Terry Crawford and Frank Cooper.
