Obituary

The world lost a little bit of sunshine on June 7, 2025, with the passing of Carl Lafayette Meyer. Carl started blessing this world on February 16, 1936, when he was born in Orienta, Oklahoma.  He was the youngest child of John and Marguerite Meyer and spent his younger years in Westville before moving to Wagoner, where he graduated from high school in 1955.

Carl served in the United States Air Force at Luke Air Force Base in Phoenix, Arizona, which is where he met Corene Jones.  He wrote home to tell his family about a pretty little redhead, and they were married on July 20, 1960.  He had found the love of his life, the mother of his children, the straight man to his jokes, and the woman who would always be by his side.

Carl and Corene were blessed with four daughters who loved them dearly.  Upon moving back to Wagoner, Carl started Meyer Heating and Air, which he ran for 25 years.  He was honest and hardworking and practically ran from job to job to take care of his customers.  Oh, and he always threw in some jokes for free.

His love for travel took him and Corene to Europe, Canada, Alaska, and many more places with their good friends, Terry and Susie Jones.  He served the Lord in many capacities at First Baptist Church and enjoyed Momentum and Men's prayer breakfast weekly.  He taught Sunday School, served as an usher, and helped on the benevolence committee.  Mostly, though, he shared the love of Jesus through his everyday life and his smile that lit up the room.

Carl thoroughly enjoyed pickleball, driving his tractor, deer hunting, and telling everyone about his kids and grandkids.  His favorite thing was making people laugh as he always had a joke ready to go.  Sometimes the presentation of the joke, as well as Corene's response, was funnier than the joke itself.

Carl is survived by the love of his life, Corene Meyer as well as daughters, Donna (Marrio) Villanueva, Debbie York, Carla (Randy) Holtz, Cindy (Lex) Gaylord; grandchildren, Rob (Liz) Harrington, Christy Harrington, Valerie Felps, Beverly Wilson, Kim Wilson, Jared (Whitney) Holtz, Jordan (Ryan) Allen, Josh (Jenny) Gaylord, and Joe (Andrea) Gaylord; 19 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marguerite Meyer; his brothers, John Meyer, Jr., and Eugene; his sister, Alice Parish; grandson, Nicholas Villanueva; and son-in-law, Mike York.

The family will greet friends at a Visitation on Thursday, June 12, 2025, in the Chapel of Mallett Funeral Home, from 5-7 pm.
