Funeral services for Carol Irene McElroy, 88, former long-time resident of Wagoner, will be held on Friday, February 1, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Mallett Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner. Interment will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the Tryon Cemetery, Tryon, Oklahoma. Carol was born June 18, 1924 in Mayes County in Pryor, Oklahoma to her parents, Wesley Bavinger and Stella (Watkins) Bavinger. She was the youngest of four children. Carol attended Pryor High School and at the age of 17, started a family. After raising her family on a farm near Adair, Oklahoma and in the town of Pryor, Oklahoma, Carol moved to Wagoner in 1977 where she resided for 26 years. She was a member of the first Baptist Church and enjoyed various church related activities, especially when accompanied by her sister and best friend, Polly. Carol was a very gifted seamstress, afghan maker, quilter, and homemaker and took great care of her family. In 2003 Carol moved to Caledonia, Mississippi to be near her daughter. On Sunday, January 27, 2013, Carol passed away at Windsor Manor in Columbus, Mississippi after a brief illness. Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Don McElroy; her sister, Polly Bollinger and her brother, Lowell Bavinger. She is survived by her daughter, Kay McElroy of Caledonia, MS; son Bud McElroy and wife Brenda of Tyler, TX; grandson Bret McElroy and wife Susan of Conway, SC; grandson Brady McElroy of Tyler, TX; granddaughter Kelly McElroy-Wallace and husband Chris of Tulsa, OK; granddaughter Kari McElroy-Halferty and husband Jay of Bartlesville, OK; grandson Kevin McElroy and wife Sarah of Fayetteville, AR; eight great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.
