Obituary

Charles Leelan Jones was born September 13, 1938, in Haskell, OK to David A. Jones and Annie F. (Guthrie) Jones. The family moved from Haskell to Wagoner in 1948 and ran Jones Grocery on South Main Street in Wagoner for many years. After graduating from Wagoner High School, Charles began his service in the United States Air Force in 1957, when he served as an aircraft mechanic until 1960. Following his service Charles was employed at Spartan Aircraft for a time, later changing to being an over the road truckdriver most of his life. Charles and Barbara were married at an early age, a union that lasted for 68 years. They were blessed with two children, Angie and Chuck. Charles' life was centered on family. He worked hard to care for them through the years. One of his biggest hobbies was finding and refinishing beautiful antique furniture. Barbara will cherish those pieces that fill her home. Charles was the baby of his family, and so many of his nephews and nieces were near the same age. Many happy memories were made as they shared activities such as fishing. Charles was an animal lover, particularly dogs. He was especially close to his schnauzer, Kasey Jo. Charles departed this life early Friday, February 16, 2024, at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center in Muskogee, OK at the age of 85 years. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, David A. and Annie F. Jones; his son, Chuck Jones; sisters and their husbands, Eva and Bert Grigg, Maxine and Milt Gunnerson and Imogene and Arch Tatum; and a brother and his wife, BG and Amelia Jones. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara Jones; his daughter and son-in-law, Angelia (Angie) and Greg Skaggs; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Friends and family will gather to celebrate his life at 2 pm Wednesday, February 21 at Pioneer Cemetery in Wagoner. Officiating will be Life Celebrant Mary Jane Whisnant.
