Obituary

Charlie Newman Watkins was born January 4, 1928 in Christie, Oklahoma to Wiley Brett and Corda (Dilly) Watkins. He was raised in the Wagoner, OK area, and had made his home in Hulbert, OK for many years. He married the former Virginia Lucille Pickett on March 1, 1947. They had a long and happy life together until her death in 2000. He served in the United States Regular Army and was honorably discharged in January, 1947.

Charlie was employed as a heavy equipment mechanic for the highway construction industry before his retirement.  He was a gifted fisherman.

Charlie was a member of the Ash Street Missionary Baptist Church for thirty years. He taught in the Evangelism Explosion (EE). Although Charlie spent a lot of time with the Lord and doing the Lord's work, he expressed that his regret in life was not spending more time with God. One might say, "He was a great fisherman, but a greater fisher of men".

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Watkins, his mother, Corda (Dilly) Watkins; father, Wiley Brett Watkins; granddaughter, Charlene Lipton; two sisters, Wilma Taylor and Mildred Meeks and two brothers, Nathan Watkins and Kenneth Watkins.
