The funeral service to celebrate the life of Charlotte Louise Jernigan will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at the First Baptist Church, 401 Northeast 2nd Street, Wagoner, OK. The Reverend Mark Pointer will officiate.
Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, OK. Pallbearers will be Joe Holderman, George Holderman, Cliff Garner, Mark Grosserode and Joshua Falk. Honorary pallbearers will be John Holderman II, Mike Holderman, Drake Holderman, Chase Holderman, John Holderman and Brian Commerford.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home to view on Monday from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm.
Memorial donations in memory of Charlotte Jernigan may be made to the First Baptist Church in Wagoner, the North American Blue Birds Society, or Saint Francis Hospice.
Charlotte Louise Jernigan was born September 11, 1926 in Tulsa, OK to John Warren and Viola May (Burris) Holderman. In 1948 Charlotte received her Bachelor's degree from Oklahoma A & M, now OSU. She later achieved her Master's degree in Saltillo, Mexico in 1964. She completed a 24 years career as a Spanish teacher, 21 of which was at Liberal High School in Kansas, in 1978.
She and her husband, Bill Jernigan moved to Wagoner to make their home in 1978. They were members of the First Baptist Church, and Charlotte was a member of the BD Chapter of P.E.O. In later years she enjoyed having lunch at the Hulbert Senior Citizens Center.
Charlotte loved nature and was a big supporter of the Nature Center at Sequoyah State Park. In 1986 the Oklahoma Federation recognized Charlotte with the Wildlife Conservation of the Year award.
Charlotte's special passion was her work with the North American Blue Bird Society. She served as President from 1992 to 1998 and was known by many as the "Blue Bird Lady."
Charlotte departed this life Tuesday, July 9, 2019 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 92 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William "Bill" Shue Jernigan and her son, William Paul Jernigan.
Survivors include her daughter and son–in-law, Deborah and Alan Falk of Peoria, Arizona; grandchildren, Nicole Commerford and her husband, Brian, of Killingworth, Connecticut and Joshua Falk and his wife, Beth of Phoenix, Arizona; great-grandchildren, Hadley, Ella and Carter Commerford and Lucas and Quinn Falk; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Clara Holderman of Tulsa, OK many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
