Obituary

Clifford Scott Newberry, 91, died Saturday, April 5, 2014, at his home in Porter, OK. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 9 at the Porter Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Paul Vickery officiating. Interment will be in Greenhill Cemetery in Muskogee. Pallbearers will be Mike Boyd, Pat Boyd, Joe Hatfield, James Chance, Paul Chance and Jeff Marlow. Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Lindsey, Dan Boyd, Sherd Parker, Frank Linzy and Mutt Tadpole. Clifford was born July 14, 1922 in Muskogee, OK, one of four sons born to Homer Scott and Gertie Mae (Couch) Newberry. A Porter resident since 1936, Clifford was a rural letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service before retirement. He was a long time member of the Methodist Church and enjoyed participating in the Elks, Oddfellows, and Masonic Lodges, Scottish Rite, Shrine, and American Legion. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Aleene (Cook) Newberry of the home; a son, David Newberry of Porter, OK; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and John William Roberts of Garland, Texas; one granddaughter, Chelsea Renee; two nephews and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his three brothers, Dick Newberry, Mark Newberry and an infant brother. Friends may view at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner beginning at 12 p.m. on Monday thru Wednesday morning.
