Graveside funeral services for D.V. (Dee) McFarland, 90, life-long resident of the Wagoner area will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 11, 2010 in Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner with the Reverend Carl Murphy officiating. Mr. McFarland was born December 23, 1919 in Yonkers, Oklahoma to his parents, David and Cora (Glass) McFarland. He grew up in the Yonkers area and attended the Prairie School. Dee served his country in U.S. Army during World War II. On June 23, 1946 he was united in marriage to Hazel Cannon, a union which lasted 60 years until her death. After the war, Dee worked for many years at Douglas aircraft. He also worked for several years for Wagoner Public Schools at Teague Elementary where he was beloved by many of the young students for his kindness and generosity. Being an outdoorsman, Dee was always a rancher and farmer by heart, tending to his cattle until his retirement. However his greatest enjoyment came from the lives of his grandchildren. Dee McFarland peacefully passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at the Wagoner Care Center. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hazel in 2006; his brother, Jimmy McFarland and his two sisters, Lena Bishop and Jean Williams. Dee is survived by his son, Ron McFarland and his wife, Linda of Wagoner; a granddaughter, Amy McFarland also of Wagoner; two grandsons, Marc McFarland and his wife, Elena of East Hartland, CT and Luke McFarland and his wife, Christy of Edmond, OK; great-grandchildren, Kenzi, Maddie, Luke, Faith, Hope and soon to be born, Grace McFarland; two sisters, Violet Baker of Okay and Tilley Williams of California; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
