Obituary

Daniel Davidson Powers, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, went to be with his Savior on January 24, 2025, at the age of 91, surrounded by his wife and daughter. He is survived by his wife, DeEsta Lee Powers; his daughter, Darla Powers-Holmes; his son-in-law, Rick Holmes; and his grandchildren, Kaitlyn Rose Holmes and Eric Daniel Holmes.

He was born in the family home near Kincaid, KS, on November 1, 1933. He graduated from Kincaid Rural High School in 1951. He played all sports, enjoying each one. After graduation, he helped his brother Kenneth Powers farm for one year and then joined the US Navy. He became an Aerographer's Mate, serving 26 months in Oppama, Japan, and two years at the Naval Air Station in Memphis, TN. He was honorably discharged in May 1957. He graduated from Iola, Kansas Jr. College in 1959 and Emporia State University in 1961 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

Dan became a Wage and Hour Investigator for the United States Labor Department and later became a National Bank Examiner with the Comptroller of the Currency. He joined First Bank and Trust Company (Formerly First Wagoner Bank) in 1970, where he served as President. He later became the Chairman of the Board, retiring from a full-time position in 1999. He continued to serve part-time for several more years.

Dan and Dee were married on February 15, 1969. They lived in Tulsa for a year before moving to Wagoner for Dan's job. They had two children, Daniel Aca and Darla Dee. He was a First United Methodist Church member in Wagoner for 40 years. He held virtually every office within the church, including teaching Sunday School for 15 years and serving as lay leader. Dan served as the Chairman of the Salvation Army for 25 years and President of the Wagoner Rotary Club. He was a thirty-second-degree Mason for 50 years, a member of the American Legion, and a lifetime VFW - Post 7039 member.

He and Dee moved to Jenks, Oklahoma, to be near their family in 2012, where he enjoyed retirement, being a member of First Methodist Church in Tulsa, and spending time with his grandkids.

Dan was preceded in death by his father Aca Carl Powers, his mother Hazel Fern Powers, his son, Daniel Aca Powers, and his sisters and brothers, Arlene Powers, Charles Powers, Corrine Carpenter, Shirley Grewing, Jean Doerr, Joan Upton, and Kenneth Powers.

His celebration of life will be on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 11:00 am at First Methodist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with a graveside burial to follow at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery at 2:30 pm.

Family will greet friends at a Visitation on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 5-7 pm, in the Chapel of Mallett Funeral Home.
