Obituary

Funeral services for Davey Joe Rice, 67, life-long resident of Wagoner will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 18, 2010 at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Wagoner with the Reverend Carl Murphy officiating. Speakers will include Miss Brianne Rice and Mr. Pug Cobb. A Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m.Friday at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner. Joe was born October 9, 1942 in Wagoner to John and Bertha Margaret (Foutch) Rice. He grew up in the Wagoner area and graduated from Okay High School. It was in Okay on September 20, 1962 that he was united in marriage to Helen Lawana Wofford. Joe began work as a farmer, then for a time as a commercial painter. In 1978 he and his brother, Johnny Rice, established J&J Auto Repair in Wagoner where Joe worked until his death. Joe was always a farmer at heart and enjoyed gardening all of his life. When a he was a young man Joe's baseball talent was noticed, and he was scouted by several professional baseball teams. Joe was also an outdoorsman and loved duck hunting and crappie fishing. Surrounded by family and friends, Joe passed away peacefully early Wednesday, September 15, 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, his parents; a sister, Lola Jean Rice and a grandson, Stevie Rice. He is survived by his dear friend, Pat Rogers of Wagoner; his children, Judy Rice and her companion, Brent Hogan of Porter, David Rice, Steve Rice and his wife, Cherie and Troy Rice, all of Wagoner; seven brothers, Robert Rice, Willie Rice, Donald Rice, Johnny Rice, Jerry Rice, Charles Rice and Ronnie Rice; two sisters, Mary Louise Dennis-Korne and Margaret Cantrell; six grandchildren, Levi Grooms, D.J. Rice, Sam Rice, Courtney Rice, Caleb Rice and Megan Rice; one great-grandchild, Elsi Grooms, and twins on the way; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers will be Jeff Powell, LeRoy Wofford, Tim Innis, D.J. Rice, Johnny Lee Rice and Sam Rice. Honorary pallbearers will be Levi Grooms, Bobby Rice, Willie Rice, Donald Rice, Johnny Rice, Jerry Rice, Charles Rice and Ronnie Rice.
