Delbert "Sonny" Dearmon Earls

Delbert DeArmon Earls, better known as “Sonny,” departed this life on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on August 2, 1931, in Kansas City, Missouri, to William Franklin Earls and Ethel Rosa (Rhoden) Earls.

Sonny was blessed with 95 years of life and witnessed an incredible amount of change throughout the generations. From the days of horse and buggy to the modern conveniences of today, he experienced a lifetime filled with stories, hard work, family, and memories. Through it all, Sonny remained a man who appreciated the simple things in life and never lost his connection to the land and the old ways he knew so well.

Music was a special part of Sonny’s life. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing old country and bluegrass songs, and he could play the harmonica just as well. He was also known as a wonderful storyteller and could keep those around him entertained with stories from years gone by.

Sonny loved raising chickens, caring for his animals, gardening, hunting, and living off the land whenever he could. His garden was something he took great pride in, and he was known to keep a close watch over it, making sure no varmint interfered with what he had worked so hard to grow. He understood the value of hard work, self-reliance, and making the most of what the land provided.

At a young age, Sonny met the love of his life, Urbia Dean Brown. The two fell in love and were married on October 9, 1954. Together they shared 66 years of marriage, building a life filled with devotion, family, and countless memories. Sonny cherished Urbia throughout their years together until her passing on April 16, 2021. Their love remained an important part of the story of his life, and it is fitting that Sonny will be laid to rest beside her.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ethel Earls; his beloved wife, Urbia Earls; his son, Steven Earls; his grandson, Ryan Earls; and his siblings, Gladys, Estalee, Dorothy, Bud, and Merle “Red.”

Those left to cherish the many memories of his life include his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Patty Earls of Wagoner, Oklahoma; his loving grandchildren, Christopher William, Dustin Earls, Keri Hattenhauer, Wesley Earls, and Kurtis Earls; several great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends who were blessed to know him.

The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to the kind people of Carter Hospice Care. Brenda, Katie, J.R., Payton, and the entire Carter Hospice staff were an extraordinary group of people who showed Sonny and his family genuine kindness, compassion, and care during his final days. Their support and thoughtfulness will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.

Sonny leaves behind the story of a long and meaningful life, one built upon family, love, music, hard work, and the land he enjoyed so much. His songs, stories, and memories will continue to be shared for generations to come.

A graveside service honoring the life of Sonny will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Summerfield Cemetery in Summerfield, Oklahoma, where he will be laid to rest beside his loving wife, Urbia.
