Dixie June Darnell, 76, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010, in Muskogee, OK. A visitation will be held Friday from 5-7 PM at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner. The funeral service will be at 10 AM Saturday, February 27 at the Porter First Baptist Church. The Rev. Carl Murphy will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Porter. June was born February 7, 1934 at Vanns Lake, OK to Marvin Preston and Lavonia Jewel (Grogan) Elkins. She was baptized at an early age at the Porter First Baptist Church and graduated from Porter High School. June and her husband Dale later made their home in Muskogee and attended the First Christian Church in Coweta. She loved to paint and do other arts and crafts and was a great cook. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she was loved by them all. June is survived by her husband, Dale Boyd Darnell of the home; two sons, Kenneth Dale Darnell and his wife, Lang, of San Diego, CA and Matthew Duane Darnell of the home; seventeen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; a sister, Norma Jean George of Porter; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Deborah Joseph and three sons, Dennis Keith, Richard Don and Curtis Dean Darnell. Online condolences may be left at www.mallettfuneralhome.com.
