Graveside funeral services for Donald E. Barnes, 72 of Wagoner were held at 11:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 18, 2009 in Floral Haven Cemetery with Chaplain Thomas Schwartz officiating. Don was born September 5, 1936 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Lee and Lucy (Baker) Barnes. Growing up in southwest Oklahoma, Don started working as a truck driver before becoming an iron worker for many years. He was a member of the Iron Workers Union Local #584 in Tulsa. In 1959 Don met and married the love of his life, Katherine Louise Chambers. He and Kitty Lou, as he affectionately called her, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary January 27th of this year. Don loved fishing and playing penny ante poker with his family. Although his luck was never quite as good as he would tell, he loved spending time at the casinos. Telling stories to his iron-working buddies earned him the nick name, Windy' and those stories will be long remembered by his family and friends. Don passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009 at his home in Wagoner. Don was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ray; his sister, Shirley; a sister-in-law, Wanda Menees and a brother-in-law, Kennith Chambers. He is survived by his wife, Kitty Lou of the home; his daughters, Frankie Burk and her husband, Joe of Okay and Donna Jones and her husband, Sandy of Wagoner; a brother, Sanford Barnes and his wife, Bonnie also of Wagoner; a sister, Neva Walbrick and her husband, Jack of Lawton, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephew; other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Ronnie Burns, Ronnie Burk, Michael Burk, Nicholas Jones, Orbrey Burk and Steve Peterson. Honorary pallbearers were Walt Menees, John Menees, Sanford Barnes and Rusty Adams.
