Obituary

Donald William Cantrell was born September 22, 1933 in Porter, OK to Clour William and Lois Minnie (Cue) Cantrell. Don served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was home on leave when he met the love of his life, Doris (Buford) Cantrell. They were married on December 19, 1956 and began a life together in Wagoner that lasted for nearly 65 years. They were blessed with four sons and one daughter. Don loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren so very much. Throughout the years Don and Doris cared for more than 100 foster children.

Don retired from Wagoner Public Schools where he was Maintenance Foreman. He did masonry work throughout his life and mowed grass, which he enjoyed so much it could be considered a hobby. He was well known for his cooking. He loved to cook and was good at it.

Don departed this life Monday, December 13, 2021 at OSU Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clour and Lois Cantrell; his daughter, Nancy Cantrell-Hamilton; daughter-in-law, Becki Cantrell; two brothers, Ted Cantrell and his wife, Edna and Bob Cantrell and a sister-in-law, Donna Cantrell.

The family will greatly miss Don as they continue on their life paths. Survivors include his wife, Doris Cantrell of the home; four sons and their spouses, Don and Julie Cantrell, Danny Cantrell and Krista, David and Diana Cantrell and Dalton Cantrell; special foster son and his wife, Raymond and Sandy Johnson; grandchildren and their spouses, Levi and Brittany Cantrell, Laura and Anthony Romero, Danielle Cantrell, Cameron Cantrell, Dylan Cantrell, Devin Cantrell, Race Cantrell, Kaitlyn and Ethan Arnold, J.J. Hamilton, Kirsten Hamilton, Sarah Johnson, and Rachel (Johnson) Altamirano; great-grandchildren, Garrett, Noah, Jayson, Micah and Finley Cantrell, Aspen and Aria Romero, Kylee Richardson and Chevy and Connor Cantrell; brother, Doyle Cantrell; sisters, Betty Davis and Lynn Borum; numerous nieces and nephews; many foster children, some who have kept in contact; other relatives and many friends.

A Visitation will be held Sunday from 3 – 5 pm, with viewing beginning at 1 pm.

The funeral service to celebrate Don's life will be at 1 pm on Monday, December 20, 2021 at the Lighthouse Church. Officiating will be the Reverend Larry Abernathy and the Reverend Lisa Sowers.

Interment will be in Pioneer Cemetery in Wagoner. The grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
