Donald Ray Cummings was born September 15, 1937 in Norman, OK to Albert Ervin Cummings and Josie Mae (Wofford) Cummings. Don graduated from Wagoner High School in 1955. He then served four years in the United States Air Force.
Donald retired from Fort Howard Paper Co. after 28 years. Throughout his life Donald loved softball. He enjoyed playing and coaching as well. He played on the Air Force fast pitch softball team and coached three little league teams and the Fort Howard team. He was an avid OU fan his whole life and loved to fish.
He was a family man who spent much time teaching the grandchildren things like how to ride a bike. They will always remember his dedication to his family.
Donald departed this life at his home in Wagoner on July 3, 2021. It was his giving nature that helped him decide to donate his remains to science in order to help others. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Josie Cummings; siblings, Debbie Bergman, Ruby Little and Albert Cummings Jr.; brother-in-law, Carroll Martin and parents-in-law, James and Gail Martin.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Janet (Martin) Cummings of the home; a son, David Cummings and Tonja Porter of Wagoner, OK; two daughters, Paula Cummings of Oktaha, OK and Joan Richmond of Wagoner, OK; siblings and their spouses, Joe and Billie Cummings of Wagoner, OK, Larry and Kyla Cummings of Wagoner, OK, Tommy and Vickie Cummings of Wagoner, Ok and Sharen Brumnet of Wagoner, OK; sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Blair and Barbara Eymnan, both of Wagoner, OK and Cindy Cummings of San Antonio, TX; brothers-in-law, Howard Martin and James Bergman, both of Wagoner, OK; five grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews; other extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Monday, July 26, 2021 in the Chapel at Mallett Funeral Home and Crematory in Wagoner. Reverend Mike Cobb will officiate.
Inurnment will take place at a later date in Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, OK.
