Doris L. Spriggs was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1925 in Seiling, OK to Jess and Gladys (Wheeler) Olvey. When she was thirteen years old, Doris moved with her family to Wagoner where Doris attended school. On August 3, 1942 she was united in marriage to William A. "Bill" Spriggs. Doris worked for a time as an operator for Bell Telephone and was later employed by the Wagoner Newspaper as a proofreader and typesetter. She is remembered as a wonderful cook and an accomplished seamstress. Doris and Bill loved to travel and camp, all the while enjoying crappie fishing. Her greatest interest, however, was in the lives of her grandchildren. Doris passed away peacefully Monday, March 28, 2011 at the Wagoner Care Center. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Bill, in 2008. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Hambrick and her husband, John, of Wagoner; by her son, Mark Spriggs and his wife, Phyllis, also of Wagoner; her grandchildren, Shelly and Rick Graham, Jenna and C.J. Flocks and Collin Spriggs; her great-grandchildren, Colt Howard and Wyatt and Zane Flocks. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2011 at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Wagoner, with the Reverend Will Rice and the Reverend Rick Boyne officiating. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner. Pallbearers will be C. J. Flocks, Rick Graham, Don Rizzo, Rob Rizzo, Gary Spriggs, and Johnny Spriggs. Hoborary pallbearers will be Charlie Spriggs and Ted Spriggs. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the OMRF to be used in research on breast cancer.
