Obituary

Dorothy Louise Jones was born July 23, 1929 in Coweta, OK to Jesse Henry and Myrtle Bell (Hall) Burress. She was married to George R. Jones, and they made their home in Wagoner. Together they worked in their oil marketing business and farming. Dorothy was an active member of the First Baptist Church. She served on several committees, and is especially known for the preparation of church dinners. For a number of years Dorothy enjoyed the company of the "Breakfast Club". Dorothy also enjoyed gardening and cooking, particularly for her family. She liked to read, work crosswords and do cross stitch. Her greatest joy, however, and of greatest importance to Dorothy, was her family. Dorothy departed this life on Thursday, March 18, 2010 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, 7 months and 23 days after celebrating her 80th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 2007, by her parents; three brothers, twins Lloyd and Floyd Burress and Don Burress and a sister, Ruby Winton. Survivors include her two daughters and her sons-in-law, Shirley and Alva Smith of Wagoner and Terri and Dan Murphy of San Antonio, TX; four grandchildren, Tammy and her husband, Greg Blaylock, Rick and his wife, Sheila Brewster, Luke Smith and Kegan Murphy; four great-grandchildren, Keeton and Kenady Blaylock and Haley and Haden Brewster; a brother, Gene Burress; two sisters-in-law, Opal Burress and Selma Burress; other relatives and friends. The funeral service for Dorothy will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Wagoner. The Reverend Mark Pointer will officiate. Pallbearers will be family members, Dan Murphy, Alva Smith, Greg Blaylock, Keeton Blaylock, Luke Smith and Rick Brewster. Honorary pallbearers will be Dorothy's friends, Betty McCoy, Frankie Clark, Betty Patrick, Jean Glaser, Barbara Frost and Corrine Meyer.
