Dorothy Jeane Padgett went to meet her Lord and Savior on August 10, 2023. She was 100 years old. She was born in Lawton, Oklahoma on October 29, 1922, to Perry Elton McWhorter, Sr., and Dora Lee (Aubrey) McWhorter.
On May 12, 1941, she married Bryan Charles Padgett, Jr. They made their home in Wagoner, where Dorothy was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Wagoner. She served as Church Secretary there for many years. She was also the coordinator for SCAMPS (Senior Citizens are Marvelous People) and very active with the United Methodist Women's group.
Dorothy enjoyed acting in many productions at the Wagoner Playhouse. She was not only an actress, but at times served as producer, costume stylist, and director. Dorothy loved to read and listen to audio books. She was well known at the Wagoner City Public Library.
Dorothy loved the outdoors and spending time at Lake Fort Gibson enjoying boating, water skiing and fishing.
At Yorkshire Senior Village, she was editor and publisher of the monthly newsletter and activity calendar. She made birthday and get-well cards for all the residents and participated in many fundraising activities and social events. She was a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) for women.
On her 98th birthday, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award for over 4000 hours of volunteer service to the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and was their oldest volunteer from Wagoner.
Dorothy loved to travel and enjoyed visiting many places including England, Scotland, Hawaii, Australia, and Singapore.
She was an amazing seamstress and made numerous quits, clothing, crib bedding and blankets.
On her 100th birthday, she was inducted into the Centenarians of Oklahoma and the Mayor of Wagoner proclaimed October 29th to be Dorothy Jeane Padgett Day.
"Grammy" was the name most family and friends called Dorothy. She was the best Grammy anybody could ask for and her heart never ran out of love. "A bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck..."
She is survived by her son Kent Padgett and his wife Judy of Spring, Texas, her grandchildren Laura Padgett, Ken Coffman and his wife Melinda of Tomball, Texas, Bryanna Escobar and her husband Gil of Ennis, Texas, Lisa Gorham and her husband Tony of Tomball, Texas, Dean Coffman and his husband Neill of Norman, Oklahoma, Sarah Padgett of Springdale, Arkansas, and her numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her dearest friend, Candy Tompkins of Wagoner, Oklahoma, Daughter-in-Law Paula Padgett of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, nephew Alan McWhorter and niece Julie Fricklin both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
She is preceded in death by her parents Perry and Dora Lee McWhorter, her husband of 70 years Bryan Charles Padgett Jr., her brother Perry McWhorter, her sister Doris Green, her son Bryan Charles Padgett III and his wife Patsy Carole Padgett, her grandsons Keith Padgett and Jeff Padgett.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 2:00pm at the First United Methodist Church of Wagoner located at 308 E. Church Street, Wagoner, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy's name to the First United Method Church Building Fund.
