Obituary

Dwight Cole was born May 26, 1948 to Elmer and Violet Cole at home in Porter, Oklahoma. He was the youngest child and was very close to his mother. His brothers are Donald, Glen, Bobby, James and Arthur. His sisters are Evaleen, Betty and Barbara. He was raised in the Coweta and Porter area and graduated from Porter High School at age 17. He started college to become a park ranger but soon enlisted in the U.S. Army in order to help out his family. He served two tours in Vietnam, sending all his paychecks to his mother. He continued to re-enlist in the Army until he retired in 1991. He then worked at Western Hills State Lodge and later at Muskogee Regional Medical Center in plant operations, retiring in 2010. Dwight met Pat in 1969. They fell in love, married and built their lives together, raising their children, Laura and Michael. Dwight and Pat loved each other unconditionally and eternally. In 2003, he proudly became a PaPa to Maddy. Maddy was his greatest joy and they referred to each other as best friends. Last year, he welcomed Alex, Brandon and Chris to be his grandchildren as well. Dwight spent all of his free time with his family. Dwight is remembered by family and friends as being loyal, gentle, humble, kind, modest and hardworking. He was mostly known for his sense of humor and generosity. He was a devoted husband, father, PaPa and son. He would do anything to help out and never asked anything return. He was the rock' of our family and our protector. He was blessed to have too many loving friends and family to list. He fought a difficult battle with cancer this year, never complaining and remaining our rock til the end. He will be missed more than words can say. He passed this life December 12, 2012 at his home in Wagoner, Oklahoma. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 16 at the Mallett Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner with the Reverend Bobby Jenkins officiating. Military Rites will be performed by the U.S. Army Honor Guard, Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
