Funeral services for Earl Richard Posey, 80, long-time Wagoner resident will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 23 at the First Baptist Church in Wagoner with the Reverend Mark Pointer officiating. Pallbearers will be Rick Posey, Mike Posey, Buddy Posey, Joshua Posey, Jeremy Posey and Brandon Posey. Honorary Pallbearers will be Elmo Cannon, Darell Freeman, H.R. Hatfield, Jerry O'Bannon, H.C. Patrick, David Redfern, Dick Vowell and Dwain Watston. A Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Mallett Funeral Home. Earl Richard Posey was born Dec. 23, 1931 in Brooken, Oklahoma to Jess Newton and Vona Mae (Berry) Posey. He grew up in the Eufaula, Poteau and Stigler areas. Following high school Earl went on to play football at East Central University. He was a veteran and served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard an air craft carrier during the Korean War. After returning from the war he was united in marriage to the former Shirley Ann Liston in Miami, Oklahoma on Jan. 19, 1957, a union that lasted nearly 55 years. Earl worked for several years as a Superintendant for Nutter Engineering in Tulsa. He and Shirley owned and operated Wagoner Small Engine in Wagoner for many years until their retirement. Earl was a member of the Elks Lodge, the V.F.W. and a member of the First Baptist Church in Wagoner. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Surrounded by his family, Earl peacefully passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17 at St. John's Hospital in Tulsa, just after his 80th birthday. Earl was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Ara Jean Higdon. He is survived by his wife, Shirley of the home; his sons, Rick Posey and his wife, Sonya of Coweta, Mike Posey of Tulsa and Buddy Posey and his wife, Shelley of Mounds, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Joshua, Jeremy, Amanda, Brandon, Matthew and Caleb Posey; three great-grandchildren, Schala, Tyler and Tesla; numerous nieces nephews; other relatives and many friends.
