Obituary

Edwin Lee Brown of Wagoner, OK passed away Friday, March 22, 2024 due to complications from cancer.  He was born in Oklahoma City, OK on July 4, 1935 to Vernon A. and Norma Estelle (Cheatham) Brown.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David Brown.  He is survived by his wife of 59 years Nancy (Denney) Brown; daughter, Lisa Hanold and husband, Scott of Fond du Lac, WI; granddaughter, Caroline Hanold of Fondu du Lac, WI; brother, Vernon Brown and his wife, Linda of Edmond, OK; and sister, Barbara Sander of Oklahoma City, OK; He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

He was known to many as Bud, known to some as Uncle Ed, and known to three incredibly lucky ladies as Husband, Dad, and Gramps.

Ed was drafted shortly after he graduated from high school and proudly served his Country in the Army and Oklahoma National Guard.  Following his service, he worked for the US Postal Service for 30 years.  He started as a letter carrier walking miles every day with a mail sack on his shoulder to deliver the mail.  Later he moved inside and could always be found at Window # 1.  Customers were known to stand in line at his window even when another window had a shorter line so he could wait on them.

He started each morning with a cup of hot coffee and the newspaper which he read from cover to cover.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, tinkering with his classic cars, gardening, playing dominos, being outdoors and spending time with family and friends.

He was active until just a few months before he passed away.  For many years after he retired, he met friends for coffee and a game of dominos.  He still owned his first car and took pride in keeping it in tip top shape.  He worked in his vegetable garden, diligently followed Nancy's instructions to be sure her flower garden always looked beautiful, repaired anything that was broken and talked with his granddaughter every day on Face Time.

He had several hunting dogs over the years which accompanied him when he went quail hunting.  Those dogs loved him as much as he loved them.  He trained them well and they delighted in going out for a day of hunting.  He spent many hours fishing and loved being at the lake or pond.  He didn't need the latest, fanciest fishing gear.  He had patience and that was all he needed to catch fish after fish.

If you happened to be around on a Friday or Saturday night, you most likely have shared a big bowl of popcorn with him. He enjoyed popping popcorn and snacking on it while laughing, joking and being with loved ones.

Nothing was more important to him than family.  He was one of the most kind and generous people you could ever meet.  He wasn't one to express his emotions in words; instead, he showed them through his actions.  Simply put- If you needed him, he was there.
