Edwin Burdett Thorne was born August 28, 1920 in Bristow, Oklahoma to Aubrey Grant and Ione (Farrar) Thorne. After graduation from high school Edwin attended Oklahoma A & M, which is now Oklahoma State University, from 1938-1940. He remained a sports fan of OSU throughout his life. Edwin served in the United State Army during World War II as a member of the Army Engineers Division. In 1941 he married the former Ethel Imogene Joyner, whom he met in Schulter, Oklahoma. They enjoyed a long and happy life together for 74 years. Edwin and Ethel enjoyed RV camping together, and he liked to fish as well. Before retirement Edwin was a banker. Edwin departed this life on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Harold Thorne, Agatha (Thorne) Ray, and Raymond Thorne. Survivors include his loving wife, Imogene Thorne; three children and their spouses, Ron and Jan Thorne of Wagoner, Oklahoma, Joyce and Sam George of Lesterville, Missouri, and Barry Thorne of Asheville, North Carolina; one brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Anita Thorne of Santa Ana, California; seven grandchildren: Jeff Thorne and his wife, Michelle, Greg Thorne and his wife, Vickie, James George, Kelly George, Eric Thorne, Monica Thorne and Sophia Thorne; five great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. A visitation will be held Monday, November 30, 2015 at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner. Viewing will begin Monday afternoon. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 1, 2014 at the Okmulgee, Oklahoma Cemetery. Edwin's brother, the Reverend Dale Thorne, will officiate.
