Elsie M. Byrd was born June 6, 1922 in Bates, Arkansas, one of ten children born to Douglas and Margaret (Hill) Parent. Elsie lived in Chouteau, OK for a number of years while raising her family. She later moved to Muskogee, and had made her home in Okay for the past 14 years with her daughter, Kathryn. Before retirement Elsie worked as a cook in a number of restaurants, including Midway, Blue Grill, Red Feather Inn and Hickory Chef. She was a great homemaker and a Christian woman devoted to her family throughout her life. Elsie departed this life on Sunday, April 20, 2014 in Muskogee, OK at the age of 91 years, 10 months and 14 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Omer, Otis and Jerrel Parent; by five sisters, Naomi Parent, Virgie Stimson, Helen Woods, Talitha Wilson and Lura Ritter; and by her three sons-in-law, Jerry Hall, John Sanders and Jerry Coppin. Survivors include three daughters: Kathryn Coppin of Okay, Vera Hall of Muskogee and Carolyn Sanders of Lawton; eight grandchildren: Jerry Coppin Jr., Randy Coppin, Anthony Hall, Kimberly Smith, Shelly Turner, Kevin Hall, Terry Sanders, and John Sanders Jr.; seventeen great-grandchildren: Dallas Coppin, Austin Coppin, Sarah Coppin, Elijah Coppin, Corey Nevitt, Jeremy Nevitt, Amanda Hooper, Tori Bills, Alyse Duncan, Keith Duncan, Brinlee Coppin , Talon Osburn, Taylor Osburn, Ritchie Osubrn, Mercy Sanders, Daniel Sanders and Samuel Sanders; two great-great grandchildren, Sophia Hooper and Cheyenne Hooper; one brother, Doug Parent Jr. of Pryor; other relatives and friends. The graveside funeral service will be at Three Rivers Cemetery in Okay, OK at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014, under the direction of Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner.
