IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elvis James
Gipson
March 19, 1933 – March 11, 2017
Elvis James Gipson was born March 19, 1933 in Johnson County, Arkansas to Noah Leon and Sylvia (Garrette) Gipson. His life growing up was full of roaming the hills, hunting, fishing, and enjoying the natural beauty of that area of Arkansas. He joined the United States Army in 1953 and served in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1955, and is honored as a disabled veteran who served his country well.
Elvis married the former Linda Lou McCully on February 18, 1956. They shared a wonderful life together for 61 years. After living in Tulsa, OK for a time, they moved to Wagoner in 1969. Elvis loved to buy and sell and was known as a wheeler-dealer. He was a natural pool player who wowed his family later in life with his amazing ability. He loved fishing as well. But, most of all, Elvis was known and loved as a gentleman who will be greatly missed by many.
Elvis departed this life in peace and surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center in Muskogee, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Michael Gipson; and three brothers, Thurman Gipson, Leon Gipson, and Denver Gipson.
He is survived by his loving wife of the home, Linda Gipson; four children, Elvilin White Milliser and husband, John, of Wagoner, Jamie Rathjen of Miami, OK, Rocky Gipson of North Ridgeville, Ohio, and Tommy Gipson and wife, Selena, of New Alluwe, OK; a sister, Ruby Rinke of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Belinda Hixon, Ryan Rathjen, Lindsay Rathjen, Jadie Rathjen, Justin Gipson, Elizabeth (Ellie) Gipson, Johnathan Gipson, and Dalgus Gipson; great-grandchildren, Noah Hixon, Elijah Hixon, Micah James Hixon and Jazz Rathjen; other relatives and friends.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday evening at Mallett Funeral Home and Crematory in Wagoner.
The Funeral Service will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday at the Chapel of Mallett Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Reverend Willie Rice.
