Emery Lee Johnson was born September 24, 1931 in Gypsum, KS to James Leonard and Hazel Cecelia (Lindval) Johnson. He grew up in Coffeyville, KS and attended schools there, where he was soon given his nickname, Bones, a name that stayed with him his entire life. Bones and his family moved to Wagoner, OK before his senior year, graduating from Wagoner High School. Later on he attended Oklahoma City University.
Bones served valiantly in the U. S. Army Air Corps, later the U.S. Air Force, during the Korean War.
Bones' family and friends will always remember him as a man who loved life. He enjoyed people immensely and always had a joke or story to fit every situation. He was a bail bondsman in Oklahoma City, OK and worked in various kinds of sales throughout his life.
Bones departed this life Sunday, April 24, 2022 at his home in Wagoner, OK at the age of 90 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Leonard and Hazel Cecelia Johnson; his two sisters, Virginia and Joyce and a nephew, James Knott.
Bones is survived by his nieces and nephews: Jaci Miller and husband, David, Steven Bruner and wife, Nancy, Roger Bruner and wife, Cindy, Patricia Shook and husband, Joel and Mike Bruner and wife, Monica; extended family members; his longtime friend, Alice Beatrice Ellis and other friends.
The Service of Life Celebration will be held at 1 pm Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Yorkshire Retirement Village, 2200 West Wellington Street, Wagoner, OK 74467.
Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner, OK. Honoring his Korean War service will be the Tinker Air Force Base Honors Team.
