Eugene Ross Hickey was born March 22, 1928 in Wagoner County, Oklahoma, to Wiley William and Allie Dove (Reaves) Hickey. He grew up in the area and served in the National Guard and then the United States Army. Gene was known as a very hard working man. He farmed all his life and was employed for thirty-five years by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, retiring just this year. On September 10 he and his wife, Carolyn Sue, celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary. Eugene departed this life on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at the age of 82 years, 6 months and 20 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Wiley Charles Hickey and Michael Gene Hickey, and two nephews, Mark Amason and Hal Robinson. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Sue Hickey of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Patsy Ann and Mark Patrick of Singapore; three grandchildren, Ashley and Madison Patrick and Franklin Todd Hickey; a sister, Mary Ellen Weidman, and her family, including Bill and Mary Jo Weidman and Ryan and Whitney Weidman, all of Van Buren, AR; two sisters-in-law, Ann Amason of Mesquite, TX and Betty Robinson of Arlington, TX, their families and his friends. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 18, 2010, in the Mallett Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner. The Reverend Ray Gaines will officiate. Pallbearers will be Dennis Dorr, Geof Thomas, Ronnie Cunningham, Keith Deckard, Junior Tillman, Dennis Jones and Bart Bogle. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Wagoner ODOT Crew, Robert Asher, Hardey Summers, Earl and Donna Thomas, Roy and Viola Hickey, Jack Harding, Lawrence Hefner and Don Jones. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner.
