The funeral service to celebrate the life of Eugene Doyle Lawrence will be held at 9:00 am Saturday, July 20, 2019 in the Chapel at Mallett Funeral Home and Crematory, 417 East Cherokee Street, Wagoner, OK. Officiating will be the Reverend Mark Pointer.
Viewing will be one hour before the service.
Private interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Wagoner, OK.
Eugene Doyle Lawrence was born December 30, 1921 in Bengal, in Leflore County, Oklahoma to Richard and Minnie (Jordan) Lawrence. He was raised in Miami, Oklahoma where he lived most of his life.
He earned a bachelor's degree in engineering and was employed as a works manager for Dow Chemical before retirement.
Eugene served in the U.S. Army during World War II and later served in the U.S. Army.
In 1981 Eugene and his family settled in Wagoner. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wagoner.
Gene and his wife, Margaret, were volunteers in the Auxiliary at the Wagoner Community Hospital beginning in 1984. Following Margaret's passing Gene continued until his health prohibited his participation in 2015. He was also a well-known worker at the polling locations during election time.
Everyone will miss his kind and gentle nature and his piercing blue eyes.
Eugene departed this life Tuesday, July 16, 2019 in Broken Arrow, OK at the age of 97 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret Lawrence; his son, Richard Lawrence; grandson, Kyle McClure; five siblings and his son-in-law, Riley McClure.
Survivors include his two daughters, Linda Cook and her husband, Tom, of LaPorte, TX and Patty McClure of Broken Arrow, OK; four grandchildren, Richard Cook, Amanda Smith, Karla Cotteau and Marissa Gibbs; thirteen great-grandchildren; his nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
