Obituary

Evelyn June Epperson of Wagoner, OK passed away on February 7, 2022 in her home of 55 years. Evelyn was born in Kankakee, IL to Richard and Hazel Posey on January 17, 1930. The family moved to Oklahoma where Evelyn met her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Jack Ellis Epperson of Wagoner, OK. They married on December 29, 1947 and made their home in Wagoner County. They had two children, Marilea and Jack Jr. Evelyn graduated with both her Bachelors and Masters degrees from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK and taught public school and worked at Bacone College and Bill Willis Skill Center. She recruited for Bacone College and her work took her all over the Southwest United States. She was an exceptional educator and touched the lives of many during her career.

Evelyn loved to tell stories about her travels, her family, and talk about her flowers and gardening. She enjoyed beans and cornbread and made the best pecan pie you'd ever tasted. Her love was unending, and she would do anything to make your life easier and continued to do so even in her final days. You could count on her to have an opinion about politics and for MSNBC to be on her television. Evelyn was resilient, determined, and this was on display when she overcame a breast cancer diagnosis in 1995.

Evelyn's greatest love was her family, and she gave them enough love to last them for the rest of their days. She is survived by her daughter, Marilea Bennett (Ivan), her grandson Ivan D. Bennett II (Alice), who was her pride and joy, her great-granddaughters Molly Bennett and Emily Bennett (Eli), and sisters Shirley Wilson and Carole Linduff and their families.

She is reunited in death with husband Jack Ellis, son Jack Jr., her brother Dick, and her parents Richard and Hazel.

Evelyn June (Posey) Epperson departed this life on Monday, February 7, 2022 at her home.
