Fern V. Girdner, 98, departed this life on Friday, July 19, 2013, at her home in Hulbert, OK. She was born March 30, 1915 in Berryville, Arkansas to Joe and Dora (Perkins) Busby. After graduating from high school Fern attended East Texas State and obtained her teaching certificate. She and her husband, E. Paul Girdner, made their home near Fourteen Mile Creek in Hulbert before building the home in Hulbert where they lived so many years until his death in 2008. Fern was a longtime member of the Hulbert First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for forty years. Survivors include her son, Dean Girdner of Hulbert; two grand-daughters and their companions, Denna Girdner and Jake Mayfield of Fort Gibson, OK and Susan Weeks and Pat Newman of Enid, Ok; one great-grandson, Zach Weeks of Enid; two nieces, Bobbie Harp and Sarah Masters; other relatives and friends. Fern was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Paul Girdner; her parents; and a sister, Crealy Robinson. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Hulbert. The Reverend Glen Rowan will officiate. Pallbearers will be Zack Weeks, Jake Mayfield, and William Murray. Interment will be at 12 p.m. in Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, OK.
