Floyd Wayne Thornhill was born October 22, 1926 in Hulbert, OK, one of five children born to Robert "Bud" Wilson Thornhill and Ada Leona (Delcour) Thornhill. He graduated from Hulbert High School. He entered the United States Army in 1950, transferred to the Army Reserve in 1952, and was honorably discharged in 1956. He served in Germany during the Korean War era.
Floyd moved to Tulsa in 1960 and was employed for many years as a machinist at Flint Steele Corporation. He enrolled in Wright Business School and trained in accounting, but returned to the machinist line of work, which he enjoyed more. Following retirement he worked as a security guard.
In his later years Floyd loved to sit on the front porch, whatever the weather, with his German shepherd, Smokey.
Floyd departed this life Friday morning, January 5, 2018 at his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine (Copeland) Thornhill; a son, Robert W. Thornhill; his parents, Bud and Ada Thornhill and all of his siblings, Brooxie, Edna, Bill and Opal.
Survivors include his daughter, Sharon Kay Thornhill; his son, Harold Gene Thornhill; and a grandson, Trevor Wayne Thornhill, all of Tulsa; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Viewing will begin at 9:00 am Monday.
The Funeral service will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at the Chapel of Mallett Funeral Home and Crematory in Wagoner. The Rev. Dr. Wade Robertson will officiate. Interment will follow in Hulbert Community Cemetery (formerly I.O.O.F. Cemetery) in Hulbert, OK.
