Calvert
September 19, 1935 – February 11, 2023
George passed away on Feb 11 th 2023 in Tulsa OK. He was born to Cecil Leonard and Georgia Eleanor (English) Calvert Sept. 19, 1935 in Birmingham, Alabama.
He was an Army veteran who served during the Korean War having held the rank of Captain. Among other things, he supervised maintenance and rebuild of military vehicles.
He received degrees from a number of places including the University of Oklahoma where he received a BS in Aeronautical Engineering in 1958 and a MASE in Aerospace Engineering in 1961. He also received a M.ED. from Loyola Marymount in 1969. Next he received a Ph.D. in Higher Education and Engineering from USC in 1973.
Professionally he taught Technical Mathematics; wrote and published articles on teaching math and computer science; published an article for a national magazine titled "After Pearl Harbor"; and he wrote and produced two one act plays. He held a number of positions including being Director of Adult Education in several places.
His most notable job was as an Engineer Scientist Specialist with McDonnell Aerospace Corp. He designed structures for Satellite Launch Vehicles. In Oct 1967 he was awarded recognition as Design Engineer of the Month for a unique method of attaching Rocket Motor to 3 rd stage interstructure.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Diana (Rodriguez), an infant daughter Marian D, and brother Leonard.
He is survived by one son, Timothy G Calvert; grandchildren Blyte Spears and husband Dakota; T. Campbell Calvert; Jude E.; Isabella K.; and two great grandchildren. Also, cousin Eleanor Hayes and husband John. In addition, by sisters and brothers in law Elizabeth and Doyle Paden; Martha Cornelison; Herman Rodriguez; Paul and Laura Rodriguez and many nephews and nieces.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 1 pm Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wagoner, OK. The Reverend Father Leo Ahanotu will officiate.
Those who wish may make a memorial donation in George's memory to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. (st.jude.org)
