George Robert Caveny was born Dec. 25, 1940 in Muskogee, Ok. He and his brother William "Dean" were adopted by Bruce and Mary (Bellah) Caveny. They lived in Midwest City, then Phoenix before moving back to Wagoner in 1957. George graduated from WHS in 1959. He attended NSU where he received his Masters Degree in Education. After teaching school for 10 years (six of them in Wagoner) he joined the National Guard in 1968 and was a recruiter for the Oklahoma Army National Guard from 1978 - 1990. In 1979, while serving as best man for his friend Bill French, George met, and later married Lisette Flora, the sister of Bill's wife, Sally. While they lived in Broken Arrow, George and Lisette's daughters, Sally Rachel and Ann-Lisette were born. He was a devoted and loving father and family man. In 1990, they moved back to Wagoner, and George began a 13 year career with the Veterans Administration in Muskogee. When called to active duty George served six months as a medic. In May of 1991, when he came home from Desert Storm he told his wife, "25 years and one war is enough," so he retired from the military. In 2006, George retired from Civil Service to relax, read, and attend auctions. George knew how to be a good friend, and his calm demeanor, along with his wise and affectionate ways exemplified his great integrity. He and Lisette enjoyed a lifelong friendship with Bill and Sally and share many happy memories of travels, nights playing cards and many adventures as they helped raised each other's family. Love and laughter were cornerstones of his life. He was an active participant at Wagoner United Methodist Church. George's traits of honesty, care giving, courage and integrity made him welcome anywhere he went. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lisette Caveny; daughters Sally Rachel Caveny and Ann-Lisette Caveny; his granddaughter, Anna Niclole, to whom he was a devoted "Papa"; nephew Bruce and his wife Annette, and son Tyler, niece Krista Caveny; and sister-in-law, Virginia Caveny; other relatives and many friends. A graveside funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 26 at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers it is requested that contributions be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Wagoner Area Neighbors, or toward cancer research.
