Georgia Lee Deatherage

Georgia Lee (Walker) Deatherage of Wagoner, Ok went home peacefully to be with the Lord on June 23, 2026, at the age of 93.

Georgia was born on December 19, 1932, to Claude and Dora Walker in Hulbert Ok where she also attended school. Being the oldest sister, Georgia started working within and outside of the family at an early age. Georgia shared a special bond with her grandmother, spending countless hours by her side learning to cook and sew. She often credited her very first employer, Ms. Grace, for instilling in her a deep love for numbers and a lifelong habit of tidiness—traits that fueled her strong work ethic throughout her entire life.

Georgia married her best friend, John Ozell Deatherage, on November 15, 1948, in Tahlequah Ok. Following their marriage, and shortly after Ozell's honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, they settled into the Sand Springs area, where Georgia began a 30-year bookkeeping career at the Horner Box Factory. When Georgia and Ozell weren't working, they were inseparable and could be found side-by-side building their own homes. Together, they designed and constructed several houses over the years, doing most of the work themselves. Georgia had an eye for landscaping and loved the beauty that trees, plants, and flowers brought to these homes. She was also a gifted homemaker whose talents spanned sewing, quilting, cooking, and baking. Over the decades, she blessed countless family members and friends with her handmade quilts and delicious meals, pies, and cakes.

Georgia and Ozell had lots of adventures throughout their incredible 77 years of marriage, but if you asked Georgia what the best part of their life was, she would tell you the life that came after becoming a Christian. Georgia loved the Lord and her church confidently and fiercely. Born with a servant's heart, she was always the first to step in and provide for anyone in need. Georgia was a wise, strong woman with a gentle soul, and even though she had no children, she was very much the matriarch of her family. Lovingly referred to as "Aunt Georgie", her place in the family ran much deeper than that. She filled the role of a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother to her nieces and nephews. She leaves behind a significant legacy of faith and love.

Preceding her in death are the love of her life, John Ozell, her parents, and two sisters.

Georgia touched many lives, and she will be dearly missed by the loving family and friends she held so close to her heart.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Mallett Funeral Home, Wagoner Church of Christ, and United Church for their compassionate support during the difficult time of losing both Uncle Ozell and Aunt Georgia.

The family of Georgia Deatherage will greet friends at a Visitation on Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 5-7 pm in the Chapel of Mallett Funeral Home.

The Funeral Service will be held to honor the life of Georgia Deatherage on Friday, June 26, 2026, at the Church of Christ in Wagoner, Oklahoma, at 10:30 am.  Ben Willhite will officiate.  

Interment will follow at Hulbert Community Cemetery (IOOF) in Hulbert, Oklahoma, where she will be laid next to the love of her life, John Deatherage.  Those serving as pallbearers include Robert Merz, Gauge Merz, Preston Bunch, Mike Cooper, JW Windrix, and Ben Willhite.  Those serving as honorary pallbearers include Neal Rice, John Deatherage, and Charlee Mae Merz (forever aunt Georgia's baby).
