Funeral services for Georgia Loy Jeffers, 97 long-time Wagoner resident, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 27, at the First Baptist Church in Wagoner with the Reverend Mark Pointer and the Reverend Eric Allen officiating. Georgia was born July 31, 1913 in Fayetteville, Arkansas to her parents, Dave and Alta (Richardson) Morgan. She grew up and attended school in the Fayetteville area before her family moved to Chouteau, Oklahoma. While working at her family's diner, she met Charles Edgar Jeffers, whom she would marry on Christmas Day, 1934. Georgia began working as a bookkeeper for Copeland's Department Store in Wagoner in 1947. Later in 1961, she and Charles purchased the store and successfully operated Jeffers/Federated Stores until 1997. Georgia retired having worked 50 years on Main Street in Wagoner and was recognized by the Chamber of Commerce with her induction to the Hall of Fame. She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Wagoner where she taught Sunday school for over 30 years. Surrounded by family, she passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at the Wagoner Care Center. Georgia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 54 years, Charles Jeffers; and all 5 of her younger siblings, Aileen Nichols, Raphael Morgan, Willy Morgan and twin infant brothers. She is survived by her son, Edgar Jeffers and his wife, Laura of Wagoner; grandchildren, Brad and Ladonna Jeffers also of Wagoner, David and Indira Murr of Tulsa and Shae and Orlando Garcia of Ramona, Oklahoma; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers for Mrs. Jeffers will be Jimmy Hall, Larry Hall, Ron Nicholas, Dick Holloway, Rick Henson and Frank Cooper. Memorials honoring Georgia may be made to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church of Wagoner. Funeral arrangements and interment in Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner are directed by Mallett Funeral Home of Wagoner.
