Obituary

Gerald Eugene Fessler was born June 13, 1934 in Alton, Illinois to William and Sylvia (Retzer) Fessler, who preceded him in death. He departed this life on Thursday, December 24, 2009 at his home in Wagoner, OK. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Wagoner where he served as a deacon and on many committees. Before retirement he was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club. Gerald was employed at F.W. Woolworth for 22 years, starting as a stockman and moving to department manager, assistant manager, manager and district manager. He then was hired personally by Sam Walton to go to work for Wal-Mart, beginning as assistant manager. His first year as manager he was named Manager of the Year. He later became District Manager over northeast Oklahoma and was able to retire at age 52 and was able to travel and enjoy time with his family. Gerald was a performer of random acts of giving generously to many, without recognition to himself. He will be greatly missed by his family, who include his wife, Carolyn Fessler of the home; four children and their spouses, Karen Morgan and Mike Graham, Kevin and Jackie Fessler, Kathryn Hewitt and her late husband, Louis, and Kerry and Monica Fessler; granddaughters, Kellie Rogers and husband, Jason, Kathy Leigh Fisher and husband, Brandon, Leigh Anne Fessler, Michelle Fessler, Marcy Fessler and Megan Fessler; grandsons, Thomas Fessler, Kodey Hewitt and wife, Whitney and Brian Morgan and wife, Amber; great-grandchildren, Connor Fisher and Shawn Morgan; sister, Marilyn Schwaab; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends at a Visitation from 5- 7 PM Monday at Mallett Funeral Home, who is in charge of arrangements. The funeral service will be at 3 PM Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Wagoner. The Reverend Mark Pointer and the Reverend Greg Cox will officiate. Interment will follow in Pioneer Cemetery in Wagoner. Pallbearers will be Brian Morgan, Kodey Hewitt, Thomas Fessler, Jason Rogers, Brandon Fisher, Jeremy Williams and Bob Brown. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeremy Holmes, David Glaser, Carl Meyers, Dick Vowell, John Lindsay, Buddy Thayer and David Redfern. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
