Funeral services for Gilda E. (NeeSmith) Holmes will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the Little Cemetery Chapel in Little, Oklahoma with the Reverend Donald Pate officiating. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Mallett Funeral Home. Gilda was born April 16, 1948 in Reedsville, Georgia to Francis G. and Mary Etta (Holmes) NeeSmith. Growing up in Georgia, her most memorable time was spent in Savannah. When she was a teenager her family moved to Stroud, OK where Gilda graduated from high school. She was a homemaker and worked raising her family. In 1999 she and her husband, Butch, retired to the lake area west of Hulbert, OK where she enjoyed boating at every opportunity. Gilda enjoyed gardening and was an avid reader; she especially loved the classic novels. Gilda died Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at her home in Hulbert, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents and by one brother, Johnny NeeSmith. She is survived by her husband, B.D. Butch' Holmes of the home; her sons, Eric Ivy and his wife, Becca, of Louisville, KY and Jason Ivy and his wife, Misty, of Hulbert; her step-children, Bobby Holmes and his wife, Jamie, also of Hulbert and Brenda Holmes Byford of Oklahoma City; a sister, Pat NeeSmith, of Stroud, OK; a brother, Joey NeeSmith, and his wife, Jean, of San Antonio, TX; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers for Mrs. Holmes will be Meryl Holmes, Jonathan NeeSmith, Bobby Holmes, Michael Holmes, Andy Miller and Bill Ivy. Interment will be in the Little, Oklahoma Cemetery.
