Gladys M. Birchfield, 86, of Wagoner, and a former long time Muskogee resident, died Thursday, June 23, 2011 in Muskogee. She was born August 19, 1924 in Spring Grove, IL to Peter and Elizabeth (Bauer) Weber. Gladys was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed traditional homemaking skills, especially cooking, and was well known for her homemade chocolate éclairs. Her family was the center of her life, and they will greatly miss her insight and sense of humor. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Roger Hayes of Wagoner; her son, Jim Birchfield of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Amy and Kent James, Mark and Christine Hayes, all of Wagoner, and Matt Hayes of Allen, TX; two great-grandsons, Ethan James and Hayden James; a brother, Gerald Weber and his wife, Virginia, of Burlington, WI; two sisters, Pat Grasty of Gurnee, IL and Betty Sheehan of Zion, IL; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Birchfield; three brothers, Arnold Weber, Robert Weber and Irving Weber and a sister, Esther Weber. The family will be present Monday evening at 5 p.m. at Mallett Funeral Home for a Visitation, followed by a Prayer Service at 6 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. The Rev. Father Joseph Orthel and Deacon Jim Ruyle will officiate. Pallbearers will be Roger Hayes, Matt Hayes, Mark Hayes, Kent James, Ethan James, Hayden James, Bob Poulsen and Robert Schaefer. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Muskogee.
