Funeral services for Hazel Maxine Choate, 93, of Tulsa will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, Feb. 28 at Sheridan Road Baptist Church in Tulsa with the Reverend John Plum and the Reverend Jim Stratton officiating. Hazel was born Oct. 11, 1920 in Hulbert, OK to her parents, Renfrow B. and Lou (Johnston) Brady. She grew up in the Wagoner area, graduating Coweta High School and later the Draughn Business College in Muskogee. For a short time during World War II, Hazel worked in a shipyard, and then in 1947 was united in marriage to John L. Choate. They moved to Tulsa in 1951 and became members of the Sheridan Road Baptist Church. Hazel was always a wonderful homemaker and involved in the lives of her children in P.T.A. or Boy Scouts. She passed away peacefully, Monday, Feb. 24 in Owasso. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John L. Choate in 1979; her brothers, R.B., Arnold and Lester and sister, Vesta Lawrence and Jane McKinney. She is survived by her sons, Phil Choate and Beth of Florence, CO and Stephen Choate of Skiatook, OK; grandchildren, Sara, Brady, Katie and Josh Choate, Kellen Nokes, Alex Harvey and Lauren Forsgren; great grandchildren, Nathan and Lila Choate, Tyr Forsgren and Brynlie Harvey; a brother, Dale Brady of Wagoner; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be John Wiley, Otto Deacon, Charles Arnold, Philip Zonker, Josh Choate and Brady Choate. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Flowers and Russell Blair. Memorials may be sent to the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children, the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association. Funeral arrangements and interment in Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner are directed by Mallett Funeral Home of Wagoner.
