Obituary

Hazel Ruth (Oliver) Hogan was born on August 29th, 1935 to Jim and Audrey Oliver in Porter, Oklahoma.  Hazel attended school at Porter High School and graduated in 1954.  After graduating she began working at Moody & Company and later worked at First National Bank in Porter.

70 years ago, in March of 1955, Hazel met her loving husband, James Calvin Hogan, at the Muskogee skating rink.  Their relationship grew from that moment on and were later married on November 23rd, 1955.  Hazel then began to help James on the family farm while raising 4 wonderful children and later began helping him with bookkeeping at his farm equipment business, Hogan Motor Equipment.

Hazel was a faithful Christian woman, she and James have attended services at the Porter church of Christ for 62 years.

Hazel was also an exceptional cook.  Family holidays and dinners were always highly anticipated by all.  She had countless delicious recipes, but two of her most famous might be her chicken and dumplings and coconut cream pie, which were often the subject of conversation when people found out she would be cooking for a fellowship meal.  Hazel was always cooking or baking for family and friends.  Anytime she had company at her home, she made sure that everyone was fed and taken care of and felt welcomed.

Family was a very high priority to Hazel.  She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and all of their accomplishments.  Hazel and James always made it a point to be at everyone's various sporting events whether it be football, basketball, team penning, livestock shows, or graduation ceremonies.  Hazel also enjoyed family trips very much.  She and James went on numerous trips over the years spanning anywhere from Alaska to Paris, France and across most of the United States; many of those trips were shared with close friends Bruce and Shirley McCollough.  Branson, Missouri was a frequent vacation spot for Hazel and James and a home of many fond memories for the family.

Hazel departed this life on January 15th, 2025 in her home in Porter, Oklahoma surrounded by her family after a long and difficult battle with brain cancer, at the age of 89 years.  Preceding her in death were her parents, Jim and Audrey Oliver; her brothers, Arlin "Cotton" Oliver and Jimmy Leon Oliver; her sister, Judy Jones; and a son, James Brent Hogan.

Left to cherish her memory are, her husband of 69 years, James Calvin Hogan of Porter, OK; three children and their spouses, David Lynn and Cheryl Hogan of Coweta, OK, Pamela Kay and Harold Lively of Porter, OK, and Andrea Jo and Bryan Garrett of Porter, OK; also Judy Lawana Rice of Porter, OK; grandchildren and spouses, Jeremy and Melissa Hogan, Joshua and Jeana Hogan, Joseph and Miranda Hogan, Jerrad Hogan, James and Reina Hogan, Justin and Falan Hogan, Clint and Eleisha Lively, Brandi and Ronnie Pressler, Ami and Will Spotts, Colby and Cheere Garrett, Madison Garrett, and Caden Garrett; her brother and spouse, Terry and Debra Oliver; numerous greatgrandchildren, nieces and nephews; other extended family and many friends.
